BIOGRAPHY:
Hermann Sondermann was born in Berlin and received his first artistic training from Johann Samuel Otto. In Antwerp he continued his studies at the studio of Josephus Laurentius Dyckmans. He finally moved to Dusseldorf, where he completed his professional training under Friedrich Wilhelm von Schadow and Rudolf Jordan. Sondermann became a main representative of the Dusseldorf School and was well-known for his peasant scenes. Today, a selection of his works is preserved at the Stadtische Galerie Wiesbaden or at the Stadtische Museum Braunschweig.
