Description
Original Pablo Picasso Untitled #8 11X14 Acrylic on music paper with Certificate of Authenticity.
This assemblage of Pablo Picasso paintings originated from the collection of Picasso’s granddaughter, Marina Picasso, before going through a change of hands resulting in its arrival in this collection. These pieces showcase Pablo Picasso’s signature style and techniques. Historically, Picasso was surrounded by a variety of artists and musicians. The renowned artist painted on many different mediums, including newspapers and sheet music. He often did a myriad of trial sketches and paintings before working on a final product.
Untitled #8 embodies a possible experimentation with different forms, eye arrangement, and hair placement. The portrait contains a myriad of elements, painted transparently over its sheet music host. There is difficulty in discerning whether the figure has hair or a hat, potentially both like in his other paintings. The complexity of the shapes making up the clothing suggest that it could be a formal dress worn for special occasions. There is a combination of linework, and dark shading used to specify the figure’s curves and the lighting on the hair and chest. The outlining of the form follows a delicate thickness instead of the thick bold black lines that are present in the other paintings in this collection.
