New York: The Viking Press, 1937. Hardcover in pictorial dust jacket. First Edition, First Printing. 4to. 190 pages with numerous back and white photographs by Bourke-White. Text by Erskine Caldwell. A legendary photo-documentary look at the depression-era South by a top-ranking camera artist and a writer of equal distinction. BOOK CONDITION: Near Fine; a solid, tight, clean copy showing light toning to endpapers, newspaper clipping photo of Bourke-White to fep., ex-libris sticker to outer edge of inner front cover/pastedown (covered by dust jacket front flap), and previous owner's name neatly written to upper right corner of fep.; in a Near Fine dustjacket showing light rubbing and wear (including a few small bits of loss) along corners and edges, a 1/4: area of loss to upper spine and slightly more to upper front and rear joints (jacket looks great in a new, clear, brodart protector), and tape reinforcements to verso at head and heel of spine and joints. Overall a solid, tight, clean and thus highly collectible copy of this legenday title, especially so with the scarce, original dust jacket in excellent condition.
