Ce drapeau a flotte sur le Landing Ship Tank LST 575 lorsqu il accosta sur la plage de Juno Beach le 6 juin 1944 afin d y debarquer les troupes canadiennes qu il transportait. Le LCT 575 etait charge de soldats de l artillerie royale canadienne, de cinq canon automoteurs de 105 mm et d un tank. La peniche a prit la mer pour la France le soir du 5 juin et a debarquee a Juno Beach le 6 juin a 8h05. La peniche est restee plus de 10 heures accostee a Juno Beach afin de recuperer des blesses. Selon les informations certifiees par le vendeur, ce drapeau a ete donne par le veteran canadien Eric Glennon a l Hotel du Clos Normand qu il frequentait a l occasion des commemorations du D Day et dont les proprietaires etaient devenus ses amis. Le drapeau fut encadre par le proprietaire d alors et place dans l escalier central. Lorsque ce dernier decida a son tour de revendre l etablissement, il prit le drapeau comme souvenir. L hotel du Clos Normand est situe a Saint-Aubin sur Mer, localite qui se trouve a l extremite orientale du secteur Nan de Juno Beach. Eric Glennon est ne a Manchester le 31 janvier 1924, il se porte volontaire en 1942 pour s engager dans la marine britannique. Il est finalement affecte en 1943 a l equipage du Tank Landing Craft 575 base a Southampton. Il s entrainera jusqu au Jour J. Tres marque par ces evenements, il revint en Normandie avec une grande constance jusqu a sa mort le 13 mai 2018. La provenance et l authenticite de ce drapeau sont attestees sur l honneur dans le cadre de deux documents officiels rediges par l ancien proprietaire de l hotel et par un membre du personnel ayant assiste a la remise du drapeau par Eric Glennon. Les originaux de ces deux attestations seront remis a l acheteur avec le drapeau. A noter une certaine usure et patine de la piece. Etat II+. British LST 575 flag. This flag flew on the Landing Ship Tank LST 575 when it docked on Juno Beach on 6 June 1944 to land the Canadian troops it was carrying. LCT 575 was loaded with soldiers of the Royal Canadian Artillery, five 105mm self-propelled guns and a tank. The barge set sail for France on the evening of 5 June and landed at Juno Beach at 8.05am on 6 June. The barge remained docked at Juno Beach for more than 10 hours to pick up wounded. According to information certified by the seller, this flag was donated by Canadian veteran Eric Glennon to the Hotel du Clos Normand, which he frequented during the D-Day commemorations and whose owners had become his friends. The flag was framed by the then owner and placed on the central staircase. When he in turn decided to sell the hotel, he took the flag as a souvenir. The Hotel du Clos Normand is located in Saint-Aubin sur Mer, at the eastern end of the Nan sector of Juno Beach. Eric Glennon was born in Manchester on 31 January 1924 and volunteered to join the British Navy in 1942. He was finally posted in 1943 to the crew of the Tank Landing Craft 575 based at Southampton. He trained right up to D-Day. Deeply affected by these events, he returned to Normandy with great steadfastness until his death on 13 May 2018. The provenance and authenticity of this flag are sworn to in two official documents drawn up by the former owner of the hotel and by a member of staff who was present when Eric Glennon presented it to him.
