Item Details
Description
This is a Metropolitan West Side Elevated Railway (Chicago, IL) Adlake Reliable switchmans lantern. Cast on the rim with M.W.S.E.R.R., it has patent dates of 1908, 1909, 1911, 1912, and 1913. Clear cast Corning CNX globe with M.W.S.E.R.R. etched on the front of the globe. Correct fount and combination brass/steel burner. Some pitting on the chimney and rim, but nice clean tinware throughout. This railroad was the third elevated rapid transit railroad to be built in Chicago, opening in 1895, and it was the first line to be electrically powered. In 1924, the MWESRR and three other lines merged to form what is know today as the Chicago Rapid Transit Company. This is a rare, hard-to-find lantern, and marked globes are even harder to find!
