Friedrich Ludwig Hauck (1718-1801), Half-length portrait of a bibliophile in his library, 1749, oil on canvas
Signed to the lower right side of the verso of the canvas, 'Fr. Hauck, Munich, 1749'. The central inscription on the verso refers to 'Johann Matthias Barak Frankfurt' (?).
His finger pointing to the Gospel of Luke, 10:42. 'But one thing is needful, and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.'
