Description
An American Cherry Veneered Tulip Poplar Slide Lid Box, 19th Century. The rectangular sliding lid having slightly chamfered sides enclosing a partitioned interior. With pencil signature to the underside, 'Perry Moses'.
Dimensions: Height 3in; width 12in; depth 6 3/4in.
Provenance: Property from the Collection of C. Thomas Attix Jr., East Windsor, New Jersey.
Footnote: A Perry Moses operating a shop selling dry goods, groceries, hardware and crockery advertised in a South Carolina newspaper dated January 1855.
Condition
General marks, nicks, abrasions, surface scratches and minor liquid damage/wear to lid. Shrinkage throughout. The brass knob with toning, otherwise good condition.
