ODIOT: AN EXCEPTIONAL 19TH CENTURY FRENCH SOLID SILVER FIVE PIECE TEA SERVICE C. 1880
the tea set comprising: a silver plated hot water kettle, silver teapot, silver coffee pot, silver sugar bowl and silver cream jug, melon shaped with panels chased with chrysanthemums and scrolls on a matted ground, the lids finials mounted with flower bulbs, plain spout, c-shaped handles with insulators.
Hallmarked French silver (950 standard, mark used 1838-present), Paris, Marks for Charles-Nicholas Odiot (active 1827-1894), each base stamped "ODIOT PARIS". Charles Nicolas Odiot inherited the direction of Odiot in 1827 and was purveyor of silverware by appointment to His Majesty the King Louis-Philippe and to the Royal Family of Orleans, excelling in the revived rocaille style.
