Approximation of Steffano Monti in Venetia, 1715; dimensions 6 1/2 by 8 3/4"; illustrated Complete vellum cover with the title of the text on the back In excellent condition. Written in Italian. Bartolomeo Sacchi, also called Platina, was an Italian Renaissance humanist writer and gastronome who lived from 1421 until 1481. Prior to receiving the Gonzagas' long-term patronage—including that of the young cardinal Francesco—Platina began his career as a soldier working for Condottieri. He prepared a family history for Francesco. He attended the same Florence as other humanists and members of the governing Medici family, studying under the Byzantine humanist philosopher John Argyropulos.
