Description
mid 19th century, 56 x 55 cm, South East Caucasus, Moghan-Savalan
RIPPON BOSWELL, FFM 23, 3 May 1986, lot 39
Half of a Moghan Shahsavan bag woven in the sumakh technique. In the field, blue and white diagonal stripes contain "double S" motifs in red and light pastel shades. The triangles crowned with a double hook in the red border rarely occur in these bags. An almost identical example, possibly the other half of the khorjin, was sold by us in 1986.
Good condition, includes the kilim back, stuffed to make a cushion. Provenance: Ehrengard Freifrau von Trotha Collection. Formerly in the collection of Peter-Christian Graf von Kleist-Retzow
