Description
late 19th century, 241 x 109 cm, South East Caucasus
Talish rugs can vary greatly in field design. In this finely woven example, small botehs arranged in colour diagonals lie within a diamond lattice composed of thin lines. The blue ground of the field is distinctly abrashed in several tones. The white main border of Talish rosettes alternating with blocks of four small rosettes is typical of the provenance.
Both ends slightly reduced, the original selvedges survive. Minor areas of discolouration, otherwise well preserved. Provenance: Ehrengard Freifrau von Trotha Collection. Formerly in the collection of Peter-Christian Graf von Kleist-Retzow
