A Hepplewhite country candlestand with circular birch top over turned birch column leading to walnut spider legs. Note - has original dark green paint under top - the remaining parts stripped to a natural finish. Overall, structurally sound and complete with no repairs. Measures 18 1/2" diameter x 27"H. Descended from the Reverend James Johnson family, Easton CT (Reverend Johnson, 1734-1810, graduate of Yale University). The Reverend Johnson homestead was constructed in 1760 and has been in the same family for over 7 generations. He was the first minister of the Congregational Church of Easton a position which he held for 40 years. The item(s) identified here, were once owned by the Reverend or a descendant.
