Description
Late 18th century embroidery on silk mourning Memento Mori (18.5" x 12.75") to Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Monument reads, "Jean-Jacques Rousseau born 28 June 1712 died 2 July 1778". Jean-Jacques Rousseau was a Swiss philosopher, writer, and composer. His political philosophy influenced the progress of the Age of Enlightenment throughout Europe, as well as aspects of the French Revolution and the development of modern political, economic, and educational thought. Framed in a Circa 1830 Empire mahogany frame, 22" X 28". Visible image measures 12 3/4" X 18 1/2". Condition - Has a "L" shaped separation, approximately 3/4" x 3/8" on lower right next to base of tree. Has three small pin holes near couple and two minor separations to silk on lower left . The frame has been reduced in size to 22" X 28"). See Photos.
