Description
An original internal wood door from Tittenhurst Park, Berkshire, dating to the 1960s, when John Lennon and Yoko Ono purchased the house from Peter Cadbury. The house dates back to 1737, although the facade is largely circa 1830. After The Beatles broke up, Lennon and Ono moved their operations from the Apple headquarters to Tittenhurst Park, which became the center for most of their recording, film, political, and promotional activities until they left for the United States. They also recorded their Imagine album at the studios that they installed in the property and filmed the correlating movie there. The dark wood door was part of the furnishings during the time they owned the house from 1969 to 1971 and also when Ringo Starr owned the property from 1971 to 1989. The door was removed when Starr sold the house to Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, president of the United Arab Emirates, who did a complete renovation of the house. The doors were retrieved and sold during the renovation process.
This door is possibly one of those that opened into the “White Room” and an example of which can be seen in the video for "Imagine." This is suggested by the fact that one side of the door was originally painted white and the remnants of the paint can be seen in the wood grain. The hinges are still attached.
