Description
HOGARTH, William (1697 – 1764). Southwark Fair. London: G.G. & J. Robinson, 1796. Engraving, by T. Cook, of this famous scene after Hogarth’s painting, depicting the attendees, acts, and overall chaos of the fair, including images of a rope dancer, Isaac Fawkes presenting conjuring tricks in his booth, a peep show in the foreground, as well as pickpockets, dice games, and theatrical productions. Framed, sheet 14 ¾ x 19 1/8”. Piece torn lower left with slight loss of text; few small tears at lower right image; foxing and spotting. Sold as-is.
