George and Edward Dalziel, wood-engraving publishers in London, worked with a variety of important Victorian artists to produce illustrations for the book and magazine market during the second half of the 19th century. In 1863 they began a project for an illustrated bible, which was finally published in 1881 as Dalziel's Bible Gallery: Illustrations from the Old Testament. George Frederic Watts was commissioned to create the illustrations for the story of Noah, for which this drawing of Noah's head is a study.
