Description
Check no. 61 from the Merchants National Bank of San Francisco, signed by novelist Jack London (1876-1916) at lower right. Measuring 6.25" x 2.75", dated Oct 12, 1909, San Francisco, CA. The check, paid to the order of notable financier William H. Moore (1848-1923), is made out for the sum of $4.60. In very good to fine condition, with expected cancellation stamps on verso and cancellation punch holes to front. PSA slabbed and graded NM-MT 8, measuring 9.5" x 4.5" overall. Jack London established his literary reputation in the new Western adventure genre with “Call of the Wild” (1903) and “White Fang” (1906), novels inspired by some of his real-life experiences in the 1897 Klondike Gold Rush. London produced many popular and commercially successful novels, short stories, poetry, plays, essays, and travel accounts before his premature death. William Henry Moore was an American attorney and financier. He organized and sat as a director for several steel companies that were merged with among others the Carnegie Steel Company to create United States Steel.
