Description
Maritime Southeast Asia, Malaysian, istinggar or matchlock musket rifle with influence from the Portuguese word espingarda or arquebus, probably late 17th or 18th century. Dark ebonized wood stock with a stock similar to examples used by the Padang, Indonesia or by the Minangkabau people of West Sumatra. Butt carved with a slit design. Lock and brass mounts overall with numerous engraving and pierced details. Octagonal barrel of pitted black iron with four brass straps. Size 62 1/2" L, barrel 51" L
