Description
Year: 19th century
Size: 38" x 27.5"
Medium: Oil
Description: Large 19th-century oil painting on canvas depicting shipwrecked people at sea, signed by Ivan Aivazovsky. Excellent quality and condition scene that, as part of Aivazovsky's Christian allegory, captures the beauty and destructive power of the water with figures in urgent need of salvation. Aivazovsky painted this subject in other variations, but they were typically done around sunset; in this instance, the composition is changed to reflect the first light of morning. Encased in a vintage gilded frame featuring an artisanal plaque. Measuring around 38" by 27.5" when framed.
