Item Details
Description
4 3/8” height for the Icelandic pony. Early Medieval form with “pie crust” edge and folded Calkins. 3-3 nail holes for “fiddle key” nails which protruded from the shoe. The pony walked on the nails, thus, the shoe is thinner than later types which were subject to wear. The term pony identifies horse breeds that are of stockier and more compact build than other horses and strong for their size. The Icelandic pony evolved in response to their rugged terrain and sparse food supply.
