Francis Martin Drexel (1792-1863) two oil on canvas portraits of John Christian Benfer, signed and dated "M. Drexel, 1824" and Margaretta Rentz Benfer, both mounted in gilt frames.PROVENANCE: Margaretta Rentz Benfer (1783-1847) and John Christian Benfer (1783-1863) had three children: William Benfer (d. 1853), Amelia Benfer Downer (1823-1892) and Margaret Benfer Brooke. The Benfer's are buried at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia, plots 16 and 17. This pair of portraits descended in the Brooke family, then to Freemans. 29.5" x 24.5" ss / 37.25" x 32" oa
