A collection of four pre WWII and WWII era Japanese Navy military memorable enamel pottery sake cups. The collection includes cups featuring enameled images of anchors, sakura flowers, a human figure, and other designs. A base of one cup is decorated with a relief swirl design. The exteriors of two cups are adorned with enameled floral design. Gilded rims. Cups that belonged to sailors and pilots are rare. They are more valuable because there were fewer sailors and pilots compared to ground forces. Each cup is decorated with Calligraphic inscriptions written in the kanji alphabet used before 1946 and are read in reverse compared to the currently accepted Japanese writing. This is another reason why printed cups are difficult to counterfeit. Especially if the inscription is poetic not all Japanese are now familiar with this letter. Porcelain cups were made to order, and, as a rule, they bear the name of the owner and the number of his military unit. Sake was a part of Japanese military culture, and its consumption is included in military rituals. One of them was a sip of sake before the last flight.
