Vintage c1940 Dresden Plate Quilt measuring 73 x 82 inches. It is comprised of 12 blocks, 18.5 x 18.5 inches, set straight, 3 by 4. There is a 9.5 border along the vertical sides and a 4 inch border along the horizontal sides. It is hand and machine pieced, hand appliquéd, and hand quilted in a red embroidery floss big stitch. Very thin cotton batting and off white cotton muslin reverse. The edges are finished knife edge style by hand with a blanket stitch along the perimeter. All the plates are comprised of mostly blue floral feed sack prints with red centers. The corner of each block consists of a heart shaped red appliqué, when the blocks are pieced together they create a secondary design of a red flower. The vertical borders are wider to accommodate additional red appliqué shapes to complete the flowers along the sides. It is in good condition with a few small spots and discolorations. This quilt is part of the Estate of widely respected Sharon Stark of Sharon's Antiques Vintage Fabrics and Textiles of Eastern PA. She was an author and long time collector and dealer of antique quilts, fabrics and textiles. Sharon was THE authority on Feedsacks, and you may remember her Rickrack website.
