c. 1756 French and Indian / Seven Year's War Colonial Era Manuscript Document Regarding Military Merchandise
c. 1756 French and Indian War Colonial Era, Manuscript Document Signed, "Col. E.(stes) Hatch" (1689-1759) who commanded the Troop of Cavalry in Boston, and was Captain of the 10th Company in the Third Massachusetts Regiment at the Battle of Louisburg in 1745, later a Brigadier General, being a formal Review of specific critical Merchandise during the Seven Year's War, (Massachusetts), Very Fine.
Rare unusual, Military Manuscript Document of 4 pages, each page measuring about 7.5" x 12.25", (Massachusetts). A list of Merchandise received from George Craddock, Esq. who was Judge of the Court of the Admiralty. The various forms of military merchandise reviewed and listed includes: cordages, cables, barrels of lampblack, iron shot, and brimstone. The Court of the Admiralty was established by the Rule of War of 1756 to achieve uniformity of Maritime supply prices, and put into place a prohibition of trade with merchants from neutral nations who were also trading with the enemy, during the Seven Years' War. Signed at the conclusion by Estes Hatch, Stephen Boutineaut, Thomas Jackson, Samuel Wentworth, John Hutchinson, and attr. John Payne, Register. This unique document has some minor small separations and holes at the folds. Expected light toning, spotting and foxing as shown. Slightly uneven edges, yet overall boldly written, easily readable, and signed in brown ink on laid watermarked period paper.
Colonel Estes Hatch (1689-1759) was one of the most prominent and wealthy men of Dorchester (Mass.). He commanded the Troop of Cavalry in Boston, and was Captain of the 10th Company in the Third Massachusetts Regiment at the Battle of Louisburg in 1745. There, he led his company at the capture of Louisburg.
Hatch was also prominent in Town of Boston affairs, and held several principal military offices over the course of his life, and near the time of his death, he was a Brigadier General.
