Description
An American Folk Art Ink and Watercolor Fraktur Scherenschnitte Liebesbriefe Valentine (Scissor-Cut Love Letter), Dated February 14th, 1780. Decorated with hearts, flowers and birds. The first verse of inscription reads,
"As sure as the grape grows on the Vine, I have chose you for my Valentine. I chose you out from among the rest. Because I thought I lov'd you best. "
Dated twice to reverse and indistinctly addressed "to and from". Matted, framed and glazed in a 19th century mahogany molded frame.
Dimensions: Sight 12 x 12in; Frame 23 1/4 x 22 1/4in.
Provenance: Property from the Collection of C. Thomas Attix Jr., East Windsor, New Jersey.
Condition
Matted, Framed and Glazed. The work has not been examined outside of the frame. General fading, foxing, discoloration, creases, tears and small losses throughout. The frame with nicks and surface scratches.
