Two miniature splint baskets. The first a circular basket with single loop handle in original brown paint, mid 19th century -measures 4 1/8" diameter x 4"H - very good condition, no breaks in splint; the second a rectangular shaped Native American basket without handles (never had them), late 19th century - measures 6 1/2"L x 4 3/4"W x 3"H - very good condition, no breaks in splint. Provenance: Descended from the Reverend James Johnson family, Easton CT (Reverend Johnson, 1734-1810, graduate of Yale University). The Reverend Johnson homestead was constructed in 1760 and has been in the same family for over 7 generations. He was the first minister of the Congregational Church of Easton a position which he held for 40 years. The item(s) identified here, were once owned by the Reverend or a descendant.
