Description
A 1960s Todt Artiste archtop guitar in sunburst finish. Owned and played by Randy Bachman, who has sold 40 million records worldwide as a member of The Guess Who, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, and as a solo artist. Part of his large collection of archtop guitars from the 1940s-1960s.
Herbert Todt is widely regarded as one of the most skilled luthiers operating out of East Germany during this period of guitarmaking. Todt’s work is typically characterized by master craftsmanship, elaborate inlay work, and excellent tone –– and this example is no exception.
A maple neck with a white headstock overlay with Herbert Todt’s signature design motif in black, six white button tuners, laminate white-and-black nut with zero fret, a bound 20-fret fretboard with mother of pearl inlays with one missing at the ninth fret. Thick multi-ply binding surrounds the carved sunburst spruce top and maple back and sides. Two bound catseye style sound holes, adjustable ebony bridge and harp tailpiece. The headstock motif is echoed on the pickguard, which also has a volume knob for the pickup located at the end of the fretboard.
Includes soft-shell case.
