Description
Henri Deux Ware salt cellar, designed by Charles Toft, English, mid to late 19th century. In the Saint-Porchaire style first popularized during the Renaissance period. Minton's Art Director, L?on Arnoux, rediscovered the techniques required to produce the decoration. He produced the first 'Henri II' wares in 1858, combining inlaid and painted decoration. Arnoux taught these techniques to Charles Toft Sr., and Minton continued to produce pieces in this style into the 1890s. Appropriate marks at underside. 4.25 x 7.25 x 5.25 inches.
Condition
One extremely small spot on the top surface has been touched up, and one extremely minor area with a possible touch up to the hair on one head. There are chips on two wings, a firing crack on the top of one headdress, a minor abrasion at one breast, a minor abrasion at one forehead, minor chips to the tips of two foliate headdresses, and an extremely minor chip at one foot.
